Cleaning of chemical transport container

While the cleaning of transport containers for food and feed primarily focuses on food and feed safety and transport hygiene, the transport of chemical products and hazardous goods is primarily about quality assurance of the products and safety during transport and cleaning.

The provisions of the ADR apply to transport. The abbreviation ADR stands for the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route).

ADR for dangerous goods transport includes regulations for:

• the classification
• Packaging,
• Labelling,
• and documentation of dangerous goods.
  
  

It also defines regulations for handling dangerous goods during transport and also for load securing and vehicles used.

 

Dangerous goods classes and labeling

Dangerous goods are divided into nine dangerous goods classes by the ADR. These are based on the dangerous goods classification of the United Nations (UN).

The necessary safety measures are prescribed in the ADR for the individual hazard classes. In addition, it is defined in which quantity and in which way the dangerous goods may be transported. Information is also provided on proper documentation, the need for an ADR transport document and written instructions for the transport of dangerous goods. The ADR set of rules also describes the proper labeling of dangerous goods, which is also referred to as labeling. The ADR and the GGSVEB stipulate clear and clearly visible labeling of dangerous goods both on the outside of the truck and on the containers for dangerous goods.

Packaging and transport of dangerous goods

The ADR defines specific regulations for transport and packaging for each of the nine dangerous goods classes. An ADR approval of containers and means of transport is mandatory for the transport of dangerous goods. The ADR set of rules also contains regulations for the transport of dangerous goods that take place on several combined transport routes if the dangerous goods are first transported by truck, for example, and then by rail, ship or plane.

TCC - Tank Cleaning Codes

Precise information on the last load is required for safe and optimal cleaning. Container cleaning without a safety data sheet for the dangerous goods is not permitted due to the high risk of poisoning, chemical burns, exothermic reactions or explosions.

The operator of a cleaning station must also ensure that the staff is trained in all safety issues and wears the required PPE = personal protective equipment.

In order to digitize cleaning and make it safer, ENFIT has developed complex blockchain software in cooperation with bulkvision GmbH. With this, all necessary organizational steps are recorded from the order acceptance - digital check-in, digital identification of the driver, the transport container and its owner - via the GID = Global - ITEM-ID.

Drivers can generate the cleaning order digitally in advance so that it is only printed out for signature when registering. This is followed by the selection of the previous products with the recommended cleaning steps (TCCs - Tank Cleaning Codes). The manager assigns the lanes and the waiting list. Waiting drivers automatically receive an update of the expected start time of the cleaning on their smartphone. After the cleaning has been completed, the cleaning certificate is generated with the ENFIT-bulkvision blockchain software.
